  • Sean Farrell

    Sean Farrell joined Practical Law Canada after practicing as a partner with McMillan LLP, specializing in the area of securities and public markets transactions with a particular emphasis on domestic and cross-border offerings of securities and mergers and acquisitions. He also advised public companies with respect to corporate governance matters and securities disclosure and compliance matters. He has been recognized in Chambers Global for Corporate M&A, The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory for Corporate Finance & Securities and the Legal Media Group’s Guide to the World’s Leading Corporate Governance Lawyers. He is also a counsel to Fasken Martineau and a member of their Financial Institutions Group.
  • Monique Rabideau

    Monique Rabideau, Capital Markets & Securities practice lead, joined Practical Law Canada from Fogler, Rubinoff LLP where she was a partner in the business law group, specializing in corporate and securities law. Monique has assisted a variety of businesses with their legal needs, such as compliance with legal obligations and regulatory matters, corporate governance, mergers, acquisitions and dispositions, borrowing, lending, issuances of securities and drafting documents such as disclosure, correspondence and agreements.

  • Sharmila K. Irvine

    Sharmila K. Irvine, Commercial Transactions practice lead, joined Practical Law Canada after serving as General Counsel for a North American conglomerate, the Norstar and Concordian Group, where she had carriage of all legal matters. Previously she was Assistant General Counsel to a large multinational, the Miller Group. Prior to that, Sharmila held the position of Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Secretary for a North American data and telecommunications company. Sharmila commenced her career in private practice as a corporate / commercial associate with the law firm of Brattys LLP.
  • John Mackie

    John Mackie joined Practical Law Canada after working for several years as a contributing lawyer-editor for Thomson Reuters’ WestlawNext and Business Law Currents publications. Previously, he was General Counsel of Gennum Corporation, advising on corporate, commercial and securities matters. Before that, he was Assistant General Counsel of Imax Corporation, Associate General Counsel of AT&T Canada Long Distance Services Company, and an associate with Fraser & Beatty (now Dentons).
  • Steve Szentesi

    Steve Szentesi is a Canadian competition lawyer. He has practiced at some of the leading business law firms in Toronto (Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP), Vancouver (Lang Michener, now McMillan LLP) and London (Linklaters LLP). Steve also practiced as in-house competition counsel for The Canadian Real Estate Association in Ottawa. He has advised on numerous competition law matters in the abuse of dominance, conspiracy, compliance, pricing and distribution and advertising and marketing law areas, among others. His academic work includes four years as adjunct professor of competition law at the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Law. He has also spoken and published widely in the Canadian competition law area and is frequently interviewed and quoted in the media in relation to competition law developments.

  • Wayne Gray

    Wayne Gray, Corporate and M&A practice lead, joined Practical Law Canada from McMillan LLP, where he was a partner in the business law group, specializing in corporate law, M&A transactions and corporate governance. Previously he was a partner in the corporate-commercial group at Miller Thomson LLP. He is recognized as a leading corporate mid-market lawyer in The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory and The Lexpert®/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada and for corporate law, private equity and secured lending in Martindale-Hubbell. He received the Award for Distinguished Service from the Ontario Bar Association (2006).
  • Jacqueline Lund

    Jacqueline Lund joined the Employment law team from Big Lots Canada, Inc., where she was an in-house counsel for two years, before the company’s departure from Canada. Previously, Jacqueline practised for 19 years at the boutique labour and employment law firm of Mathews, Dinsdale and Clark, LLP, where she was a partner specializing in employment law, with a particular emphasis on wrongful dismissal, human rights, employment contracts, injunctions and occupational health and safety. Jacqueline has significant motion and trial experience and has appeared before all levels of the Ontario courts and many employment related tribunals.
  • Curtis Armstrong

    Curtis Armstrong joined the Employment team from the boutique labour and employment law firm of Sherrard Kuzz LLP, where he was an associate. He has experience advising employers on the drafting of employment contracts, conducting terminations, complying with minimum standards and occupational health and safety legislation, and developing workplace policies and training in the areas of human rights and employee privacy.
  • Lydia Salvi

    Lydia Salvi joined Practical Law Canada after practicing as a senior transactional lawyer in the Financial Services Groups of Baker & McKenzie LLP and Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP, specializing in corporate and commercial lending in Canada, the United States and internationally. Lydia represented financial institutions, funds, aviation financiers and corporations in acquisition financings, asset based financings, syndicated financings, private equity investments, equipment financing and distressed investing. Lydia is the Past Chair of the OBA Business Law Section and is currently an Officer on the Executive of the Business Law Section for the Canadian Bar Association. Lydia is Practice Lead of Practical Law Canada’s Finance Service.
  • Elise Sieradzki

    Elise Sieradzki joined Practical Law Canada after practicing as a senior associate in the Real Estate Group at Torys LLP where her practice was focused on commercial real estate matters, including financings, public-private partnerships transactions, acquisitions and real estate project financings. Ms. Sieradzki commenced her career in private practice as a corporate commercial real estate associate with the law firm of Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP where she specialized in commercial real estate transactions.
  • Hank White

    Hank White joined Practical Law Canada from The Bank of Nova Scotia where he was Legal Counsel responsible for providing transactional, structuring and risk management advice to the bank’s International Banking and Trade Finance groups for eight years. He has extensive experience negotiating and drafting commercial agreements for international corporate lending and finance transactions. Hank commenced his career in private practice as a corporate and commercial associate with the law firm of Miller Thomson LLP in Toronto where he practiced in the Financial Services group and specialized in secured lending including syndicated loans, asset backed loans, equipment finance and conventional lending. Hank is on the OBA Business Law Executive.

  • Marcy McKee

    Marcy McKee joined Practical Law Canada from private practice specializing in e-discovery. She also practiced litigation for ten years at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, focusing on class actions, product liability and commercial litigation. Her commercial litigation practice included contract, shareholder and real estate disputes, injunctions, securities and banking litigation, and negligence claims. Marcy has significant motion and trial experience and has appeared before all levels of the Ontario courts, arbitration panels and the Federal Court. Marcy obtained her LL.B. from the University of Victoria.
  • David Noseworthy

    David Noseworthy joined Practical Law Canada from a private consulting practice where he advised on e-discovery matters. Previously he was an associate at Blake Cassels & Graydon LLP where he acted a broad variety of civil matters including class actions, contract disputes, construction, insurance, fraud and product liability actions. He also practiced at Wagner Sidlofsky LLP, a boutique focusing on estate and commercial litigation. David has significant trial, application and motion experience before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and has appeared before the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal. David received his LL.B. from Dalhousie University with a specialization in Business Law.
  • Dave Seevaratnam

    Dave Seevaratnam joined Practical Law Canada after practicing civil litigation at Hoffer Adler LLP, in areas including commercial, civil, chiropractic malpractice, and franchise litigation. Prior to that he practiced in the boutique firm Roy Elliott O’Connor LLP, where he conducted a civil litigation practice specializing in class actions. He completed his articles in the Toronto office of McCarthy Tétrault LLP, after earning his J.D. at the University of Toronto.

  • Brett M. Carr

    Brett M. Carr practiced plaintiff-side personal injury law for over a decade at Kronis Rotsztain Margles Cappel LLP prior to joining Practical Law Canada. The majority of his practice focused on representing motor vehicle accident victims with their tort and accident benefits claims. He also represented plaintiffs with regard to slip and fall, dog bite, sexual assault, medical malpractice and other injury claims. Brett has extensive experience dealing with matters ranging from minor injuries to brain injuries and fatalities. Brett has represented clients at the Superior Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.
  • Helen M. Hall

    Helen M. Hall, Personal Injury Litigation practice lead, joined Practical Law Canada from Zarek, Taylor, Grossman, Hanrahan LLP, where she practiced insurance defence litigation. Previously she was a partner at Franklin Hall LLP, a firm representing plaintiffs in personal injury matters. She has been in private practice as well as in-house at an insurance company. She has represented plaintiffs, insurers and self-insured clients in personal injury litigation matters in the areas of motor vehicle, occupiers’ liability, wrongful dismissal and professional negligence. She has appeared before tribunals and at various levels of court.
